Data Mining for Library Service Improvement: A Case Study of Turku City Library

Data mining as a heatedly discussed term has been studied in various fields. Its possibilities in refining decision making process, realizing potential patterns and creating valuable knowledge have won attention from scholars and practitioners. Whereas, there are less studies concerning data mining and public libraries where data generation occurs all the time. Therefore, this paper aims at filling such gap and exploring potential chances data mining can create to enhance service quality. In order to thoroughly demonstrate the feasibility of data mining, one case study was conducted with quantitative and qualitative methods. In the end, positive outcomes were achieved.
